Londonderry Swimming Lessons
At The Workout Club, our Learn-to-Swim program is designed for children of all ages, from babies to elementary-aged kids. It doesn’t matter how young or old your child is, we have a program that will help them learn to swim from Red Cross-certified instructors. From mom-and-baby classes for our youngest swimmers all the way up to classes for kids who are thinking about swimming competitively in the future, we have classes for every age and skill set. We even offer private and semiprivate swim lessons on a limited basis.

Parent and Child level 1 (6 -18.months) 30 minutes class. Level 1 introduces basic skills to parents and children. Parents learn how to safely work with their child in the water, including how to appropriately support and hold their child in the water and how to prepare and encourage their child to participate fully and try the skills. Children receive an introduction to basic skills that lay a foundation for learning to swim. In addition, parents are introduced to several water safety topics. Caregiver accompanies child in the water. Swim diapers required.
Parent and Child level 2( 18-36months) 30 minutes class. Builds on the skills introduced in level1. Participants improve on these skills and learn more advanced skills Caregiver accompanies child in the water. Swim diapers required.
3 Year Readiness (3-4 yrs) 30 minute class. This class is for those ready for the preschool program but not yet old enough we limit the class size to 3 students . Children are no longer be accompanied by the caregiver and work with a Swim Instructor. Emphasis on songs and games while introducing new skill repetition and independence in the water. Caregiver must stay in close proximity to class but at a distance so that the child will focus on the direction given by the instructor. Swim diaper required if not completely potty trained.
Preschool-1 (ages 4-5yrs) 30 minute classes. Children are taught proper entry in to a pool, glides, floating and breathing skills are taught while having fun. These skills lay the foundation for future skill development of swimming strokes. The class is for kids who may still be timid of the water or have not had much experience in the water. A lot of support is given for all skills.
Preschool 2 (4-5 years) 30 minute class. Children are taught to glide on front and back for 2 body lengths, swimming with combined arm and leg actions and submerging mouth and nose. children should be somewhat comfortable in the water for this class. They should have good listening skills and are given support with all skills.
Preschool 3 (4 to 6 years.) 30 minute class. Children are taught to glide on front and back 2 body lengths, swimming with combined arm and leg actions, jump into water at least chest deep surfacing and then float for 15 seconds and submerging entire face. Children in this level start to really gain confidence and become able to swim independently.
Children who have successfully completed the preschool 3 exit skills will move on to Youth level 2 or 3, based on the instructor’s discretion. Youth 1 teaches fundamental skills to children ages 6+.
Youth level 1 Ages (6+) 45 minute class.) Intro to Water -Basic water skills are taught in this class. Children learn to be comfortable in the water; air recovery and water balance skills are covered. Children start to comfortably swim with no support a short distance on front and back.
Youth level 2 Ages (6 +). Fundamental Aquatic skills- Swimming without support and vertical recover are taught. Simultaneous and alternating arm and leg actions on the front and back create a foundation for future skills. Must be able to swim half length of the Lap pool and will learn rhythmic breathing. Able to float on their back for 1 minute and kick the length of pool on their back. Will work towards swimming length of the pool without stopping.
Youth level 3 Ages (6+) (45 minute class.) Stroke Development Must be able to swim the length of the pool (25 yards), front crawl and back crawl. Elementary backstroke, breastroke, scissor kick and diving is introduced.
Youth Level 4 (45 minute class) must be able to swim the length of the pool, (50yards), front crawl with rhythmic breathing and back crawl. Have understanding of breastroke and elementary backstroke. Butterfly will be introduced.
Youth level 5/6 (45 minute class) must be able to swim two lenghts of the pool,(50Yards), front crawl with rhythmic breathing, back crawl, breaststroke and elementary backstroke. Butterfly is worked on. Kids will progress to swimming four lengths of the pool. All strokes are covered as well as working on endurance.
Pre-team (60 minute class) this class is for the competitive or non-competitive swimmer. Build endurance, develop and refine strokes, get ready for team swimming. Team approach swim program combined with on deck conditioning exercises. All strokes are covered as well as turns and diving. The program is designed to develop strength, endurance and proficiency to the maximum ability of a swimmer.

R.A.Y.S. Swim Team – Ages 5-20 yrs. The Rockingham Area YouthSwim Team, or RAYS , is a USA registered competitive swim team run by our coaches and an elected Parent Advisory Board and supported by the Workout Club. RAYS offers training and instruction with a goal to give each member the opportunity to improve swimming skills, achieve individual goals, and promote team unity. We believe families are an intricate part of the success of the swimmer and the team as a whole. RAYS train year round, with the seasons divided into fall/winter and summer sessions. We participate in Dual Meets and USA Swim Sanctioned Meets, and for those qualifying times, we attend Age Group, Zones and Sectional Meets.
