Londonderry Swimming Lessons
At The Workout Club, our Learn-to-Swim program is designed for children of all ages, from babies to elementary-aged kids. It doesn’t matter how young or old your child is, we have a program that will help them learn to swim from Red Cross-certified instructors. From mom-and-baby classes for our youngest swimmers all the way up to classes for kids who are thinking about swimming competitively in the future, we have classes for every age and skill set. We even offer private and semiprivate swim lessons on a limited basis.
Registration opens June 14th
We will gladly assess your child so that they are placed in the correct level
Please note: Swim Level Descriptions have been revised to reflect the American Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety program standards.
Parent & Child Aquatics Level 1 (6-18 months) 30 minutes – Level 1 introduces basic skills to parents and children. Parents learn how to safely work with their child in the water, including how to appropriately support and hold their child in the water and how to prepare and encourage their child to participate fully and try the skills. Caregiver accompanies child in the water. (Swim diapers required.)
Parent & Child Aquatics Level 2 (18-36 months) 30 minutes – Level 2 builds on the skills introduced in Level 1. Participants improve on these skills and learn more advanced skills in Level 2. As with Level 1, water safety topics are also included in this level. Caregiver accompanies child in the water. (Swim diapers required.)
Preschool Aquatics Level 1 (3-4 years) 30 minutes – Level 1 introduces basic aquatic skills which children continue to build on as they progress through Levels 2 and 3 of Preschool Aquatics and then Learn-to-Swim. In addition, children start developing positive attitudes and safe practices around the water. The class is designed for children who may still be timid of the water or have not had much experience in the water. Children are given a lot of support for all skills.
Preschool Aquatics Level 2 (3-4 years) 30 minutes – Level 2 further develops basic aquatic skills. Children begin to perform these skills at a slightly more advanced level (i.e., longer distances, deeper water, etc.) Children continue to explore using simultaneous and alternating arm and leg actions on the front and back to gain greater proficiency in preparation for performing strokes. Children should be somewhat comfortable in the water for this class. They should have good listening skills and are given support with all skills.
Preschool Aquatics Level 3 (4-5 years) 30 minutes – Level 3 increases children’s proficiency in performing previously learned skills. Children improve their coordination and control of combined simultaneous arm and leg actions and alternating arm and leg action. Children in this level start to really gain confidence and become able to swim independently.
Learn-to-Swim Level 1- Intro to Water Skills (Ages 6+) 45 minutes – Level 1 introduces basic aquatic skills which participants continue to build on as they progress through Learn-to-Swim. In addition, participants start developing positive attitudes, effective swimming habits and safe practices in and around the water. Learn-to-Swim Level 1 skills overlap with the Preschool Aquatics Level 1 and 2 skills.
Learn-to-Swim Level 2- Fundamental Aquatic Skills (Ages 6+) 45 minutes – Level 2 marks the beginning of true locomotion skills. Many of the skills taught in this level are taught in Preschool Aquatics Level 3. Participants learn to glide and float without support and recover to a vertical position. Participants further develop simultaneous and alternating arm and leg actions on the front and back, laying the foundation for future strokes.
Learn-to-Swim Level 3- Stroke Development (Ages 6+) 45 minutes – In Level 3 participants learn and practice survival floating, front crawl and elementary backstroke. Participants will be introduced to scissors and dolphin kicks, headfirst entries from a seated poolside position and extend the time duration for treading water.
Learn-to-Swim Level 4- Stroke Improvement 45 minutes – In Learn-to-Swim Level 4 participants improve their aquatic skills and increase their endurance by swimming the strokes learned in Level 3 (i.e., front crawl, elementary backstroke) for greater distances and with more advanced proficiency. Participants add arm actions to the previously learned scissors kick and breaststroke kick to perform the sidestroke and to learn the breaststroke. Participants also begin to learn the back crawl and the butterfly, as well as the basics of performing a simple open turn at the wall.
Learn-to-Swim Level 5- Stroke Refinement 45 minutes – In Level 5, participants refine their performance of all six strokes (i.e., front crawl, back crawl, butterfly, breaststroke, elementary backstroke and sidestroke) and increase the distance that they swim. Participants also learn to perform flip turns on the front and back.
Learn-to-Swim Level 6- Pre-team 60 minutes – This class is for the competitive or non-competitive swimmer. Students will build endurance, develop and refine strokes, get ready for team swimming. The class provides a team approach swim program combined with on deck conditioning exercises. All strokes are covered as well as turns and diving. The program is designed to develop strength, endurance and proficiency to the maximum ability of a swimmer.

We participate in Dual Meets and USA Swim Sanctioned Meets, and for those qualifying times, we attend Age Group, Zones and Sectional Meets.
